If the UK Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) announces a proposal to extend the BBC licence fee (or any successor BBC funding charge) to cover watching online video (such as on YouTube or on-demand streaming services) before Jan 1, 2027, then the market resolves to Yes.
A proposal must be stated as the government's own proposed or intended policy, such as in the BBC Charter Review white paper or a draft charter. A charge on households that watch online video other than live TV and BBC iPlayer, or that subscribe to streaming services other than the BBC's, counts. The following do NOT count: A consultation option, or a statement that the government is considering or reviewing the extension Media reports of the government's plans The existing requirement to hold a licence to watch live TV on any service or to use BBC iPlayer A proposal that only requires a licence to watch BBC content on other platforms A charge on every household or device regardless of what is watched, or a levy on streaming companies
